Džervin strikes gold in Vienna
One of the world's largest wine competitions, AWC Vienna, has brought the Džervin winery from Knjaževac its first gold in history outside the Balkans – for the premium Riesling 2021.
Quite undeservedly left out of the spotlight of Serbia's big wine events, Džervin has, ever since its privatisation in 2017, been quietly offering wines with a fantastic price-to-quality ratio that improves from vintage to vintage.
Strictly controlled production, a leaning towards organic growing – with a three-hectare experimental Vranac vineyard now in its third year – a perfect Sauvignon Blanc that won Grand Gold at the Serbian Winegrowers' and Winemakers' Association assessment in 2021 and gold at the Balkan BIWC 2022 competition alongside the Rose Pinot, plus wines still to come to market, are all proof of the Džervin team's great dedication.
You can compromise in relationships, but never with wine, reads the clean, recognisable label of Džervin's Riesling. And that is exactly what this Riesling 2021 is: light yellow with delicate green glints, announcing a hundred shades of freshness in the glass.
